About - The objective of this group, which started in 1989, was to record very local history; it kept a detailed week-to-week diary of life and changes in the village which, after 10 years, was concluded in 2010.  It also charts events in village life such as the foot and mouth epidemic.  An exhibition was also held at the Methodist Chapel.

The History Group holds local documents such as:

  • The  Chapel Churchyard Survey
  • The  Church Churchyard Survey
  • The  House Survey (which also covers surrounding villages)
  • Lingen Estates Map
  • Royal Commission of Historical Monuments for Herefordshire Vol I/II/III      (1931/32/34) HMSO

  • Also available from the History Group is its book, 'Lingen Past & Present' (a Portrait of a Herefordshire Village). This book contains 179 pages on the area and many local photos -  a must for newcomers to the village.  Its priced at £7.50 plus p&p.  To order your copy  Contact Us
